We are super excited about the event and would love to know from you – what are you most looking forward to: the mud or the cake?

Event Co-ordinator Anita's visit to Sledmere House

After almost 12 months of what felt like no ‘proper’ event work, I was very excited to have a real-life in-person physical meeting to go to last week! Vikki (Events Assistant and Get Caked obstacle queen) and myself were going to Sledmere House to meet with Jonny – Events Coordinator, and James – Farm Manager.

Thankfully the snow from the week before had almost disappeared so it was a lovely drive up to the house. The views across East Yorkshire are gorgeous (but aren’t they always)! There’s been loads of building work at the house since we were last there and we had a meeting in a beautiful new events space – socially distanced with masks obviously!

Jonny hadn’t been at the house for long when we ran the 2019 event so it was a great chance to talk him through the event. Whereas James was responsible for the famous slide so knew all about it! The farming team were amazing in 2019 and built everything we needed, and more! We had ideas of what we wanted the obstacles to look like and they made them reality. James also towed our van out of the mud when we got stuck so we owe him for that as well!

We enjoyed the 2019 event so much but we know it can be better – more mud, more water and more obstacles! Vikki has loads of ideas and it was great to chat through them with the Sledmere team to see how we can make them happen. We’re not giving away too much here as want them to be a surprise when you get to them along the route…watch this space!

We obviously had to discuss the reality of Covid. We all have everything crossed that the event will be able to go ahead, we’ve just snuck in after step 3 of the roadmap when more things open on 17th May, but we know if there is any delay this could affect the event. We have literally everything crossed! We will still have to implement some social distancing and you can see some of our current plans on our FAQs page.

We have had to open another starting wave as we have reached almost 400 participants which is incredible! We are so humbled that people want to take part and join us! Though we know the thought of cake definitely helps!
